Vitovska!!!

Wow! Vitovska, Schioppettino & Ribolla Gialla! Andrew, now you are talking. I never thought anyone in the UK would have ever mentioned these wonderful grapes. Andrew Barrow wrote a nice review - here - for three of probably the most representative grapes from this corner of North East Italy: Friuli Venezia Giulia, FVG.

I my humble opinion, though I’m a bit biased, there are many more superlative producers that I would like to mention:

Vitovska - Zidarich, Skerk, Vodopivec

Ribolla Gialla - Gravner, Radikon, Paraschos

Schioppettino - Giovanni Venica, Petrussa

Give me a buzz whenever you would like to visit this side of the World and sample these extremely nice wines.

First day back at school

Sorry folks, I’ve been on holiday and I usually completely switch off.

We have been busy with lots of friends staying at Villa Giustina during these two weeks: these pics are taken while visiting Radikon and Paraschos, two reknown skin contact Collio winemakers. We drove to San Floriano del Collio by Vespa and my XT500 and spent two hours listening first to Sasa Radikon and then Alexis Paraschos while they introduced their wines and wine making procedures. They belong to the natural wine producers family and are small niche winemakers.

We sampled Radikon Ribolla Gialla and Jakot. Then Paraschos Merlot and Pinot Grigio. Wonderful products with their “amber” almost “golden” colours. Fantastic afternoon.

 GUSTI DI FRONTIERA - GORIZIA - NORTH EAST ITALY This weekend ”Gusti di frontiera”, the well known appointment with traditional and typical Food & Wines from this area of North East Italy, will attract a few thousand people from Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Germany and Italy off course. They will gather together in Gorizia to taste such a diverse and particular mix of culinary traditions and techniques. The food will be paired with the excellent wines from the DOC area of Collio and Isonzo, known to be between the top wines from Italy: the flavourful Friulano, Malvasia Istriana, Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco and Grigio, the precious Picolit; and the full bodied reds like Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot and Refosco.
